You think youve seen it all when it comes to apartment livingbut this story out of Northeast Portland takes wild to a whole new level. Alex Padilla is making headlines after filing a lawsuit against his landlord, claiming his infant son was found with a dead mouse in his mouth at the Davenport Apartments, leaving neighbors and the internet alike shook.
According to court documents, Alex Padilla and his family moved into the complex in November 2025, only to allegedly discover severe sanitation issues, including garbage buildup and rodent sightings. Despite multiple maintenance requests, the problems reportedly went unresolved. And, it apparently led to the horrifying moment when his baby was crawling on the floor with a dead mouse in his mouth. Furthermore, the child was immediately taken to the hospital for testing, and thankfully, the results came back negative. However, the family’s trauma is now at the center of a $122,000 non-economic damages lawsuit, plus $2,600 in back rent.
Neighbors expressed disbelief over the shocking claim. Ronnie Williams said, Thats not a bug, thats a god-d*mn thats an animal. Meanwhile, Dana Barbee added, Oh my god, thats not good, in their mouth, are you serious? Thats awful. While some tenants say theyve had no similar issues, the story has still left the community on high alert. Now, residents are paying closer attention to sanitation and vermin control in their own apartments.
Padillas lawyer, Fuller, emphasized that the family is focused on moving forward after the ordeal. Theyre trying to put it behind them and just focus on the future, Fuller said, noting the family had to uproot just two months after moving in. The apartments owner, AMFP V Pine Village LLC, has been contacted for comment, but has yet to respond.
