Alyssa Wehmeyer, a Missouri mother, has been charged in the death of her 1-year-old toddler who reportedlypassed away after not being fed for over 40 hours.
According to PEOPLE, the 21-year-old Missouri mother has been charged with “one count of abuse or neglect of a child resulting in death.” Per a news release from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, on March 3, Wehmeyer was “taken into custody… and transported to the Scott County Jail.”
Furthermore, the release states that Wehmeyer is being held on a $100,000 cash bond.
Per the news release, the investigation into the 1-year-old’s death began on March 3. Ultimately, it was reportedly determined that the toddler “suffered from severe malnutrition and neglect” leading to the fatal outcome.
According to PEOPLE, an arrest warrant asserts that Wehmeyer has been accused of not feeding her 1-year-old for approximately 43 hours. Additionally, an autopsy conducted on the child reportedly determined “that the possible cause of death was dehydration.”
Furthermore, Alyssa Wehmeyer reportedly told cops had last eaten on February 26. Then on February 28, she reportedly discovered the child wasn’t breathing and had blue lips. In addition to not being fed, the outlet reports that the 1-year-old hadn’t had their diaper changed in 19 hours.
The outlet also notes that the child had “severe blisters” from a diaper rash. Ultimately, cops concluded that the child was left alone by Wehmeyer for 19 hours before being discovered deceased.
Per court records, Wehmeyer appeared before a judge on Thursday, March 6. However, she is scheduled to reappear for a bond hearing on March 17.
As The Shade Room previously reported, in January, a French mother made headlines for being sentenced after allegedly starving her daughter to death years earlier. Furthermore, it was reported that the mother, Sandrine Pissarra, allegedly did so because the 13-year-old resembled her father.
