Vacation in Prague

The Old Town Square is the historical heart of old Prague. It has the largest number of attractions per square meter than anywhere else in the city.
You'll spend hours examining them, but believe me, it's worth it! It is surrounded by a huge number of historically important buildings and monuments. Start with the black towers of the Dead End Church, which are a symbol of Gothic architecture and were built back in 1461. Entering the church through the arch on the north side, you will see the grave of the famous Danish astronomer (Tycho Brahe), who moved to Prague in 1599. The most accurate astronomical maps of that time are associated with his name. The Kipsu Palace, made in the Baroque style, was used as a small German grammar school after the construction was completed. But now the building houses a luxurious wine restaurant and an exhibition of the National Gallery, representing nineteenth-century landscape artists. Another monument made in the Baroque style is the Church of St. Peter the Great. St. Nicholas, located in the northwest corner of the Old Town Square. By the way, the square is often called Starogorodskaya, and the Czechs themselves call it Staromak. In the southern part of the square is the Old Town Hall, the tower of which is decorated with an astronomical clock, named "Orloj", which has been a symbol of Prague since its installation in 1410. Crowds of spectators gather every hour to watch a mechanized performance that marks the end of one hour and the beginning of the next: to the sound of a bell, a skeleton turns over an hourglass, while the 12 apostles perform a solemn procession. The representation of death here is very allegorical: it symbolized the bloody history of the square and, in particular, the execution of 27 rebels who opposed the Habsburg dynasty in 1621 and recalled the beginning of a strong national and religious oppression of people at that time. Despite its slightly creepy history, the Old Town Square remains one of the most popular meeting places of the townspeople. This place becomes especially lively during the annual Easter and Christmas celebrations. During the celebrations, there is no more beautiful place in all of Europe, where European arts and crafts, hot pastries and a rich selection of sausages, fine wine and colorful performances will be presented to your attention.
