One of the most interesting (and controversial) trends in mainstream Hollywood has been the rise of TV-inspired films and other movies that are based on familiar TV or film properties. The new trend started with shows like Pacific Rim, Twilight and True Blood becoming movies, and now people are looking at The Big Bang Theory, Breaking Bad and Portlandia to possibly become profitable films in the future.

A small-town Indiana high school sets out to become champions. What can go wrong?
2) Miracle (2004)

3) Rocky (1976)
We didn't need all five parts of the saga to know that we wanted to be like Rocky . The story of a small time boxer who won against all odds was inspirational enough for two sequels, a stage show and an upcoming film.
4) Remember the Titans (2000)
This crowd pleaser focuses on football coach Herman Boone (played by Denzel Washington ) as he brings together a diverse group of players, whom he fears may come to blows, but forges them into an undefeated team.
5) The Karate Kid (1984)
Daniel Larusso’s training under Mr. Miyagi in the ways of karate is nothing short of epic. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that he’s training to defeat Cobra Kai.
6) Bull Durham (1988)
Who didn't want to be the guys in the locker room with Kevin Costner ? A story of an aging catcher who gets one last shot at baseball, this film is a true blue American classic.
7) Seabiscuit (2003)

12) The Natural (1984)
Robert Redford gives one of his best performances as a baseball player who returns to the game after being away for years. With a young Kim Basinger , what’s not to love about this film?
13) Rocky III (1982)
The third film in the franchise sees Rocky taking on Mr. T and getting a little help from Dolph Lundgren . We love us some Rocky .
14) The Bad News Bears (1976)

15) Happy Gilmore (1996)
Adam Sandler at his best. And we get to see him hit golf balls while doing one of our favorite sayings ever: “They’re puttin me in a movie, they’re puttin me in a movie!”
16) Rocky IV (1985)
Poor Rocky . His career seems to be taking a nosedive, especially when he faces off with Ivan Drago and his entourage in this fourth installment of the franchise. Gotta love Dolph Lundgren .
17) Rocky V (1990)
Adonis Creed, the son of Apollo Creed, gets his chance to take up the boxing mantle in this sixth film. Sadly, Sylvester Stallone didn't return for this installment. We couldn’t have gotten through the movie without him.

The ultimate baseball movie for kids, this 1993 crowd pleaser was also one of the biggest hits of the summer that year. 19) St. Elmo's Fire (1985)
This was John Cusack's biggest hit, earning him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Musical/Comedy and making him a star from coast to coast. 20) The Karate Kid Part II (1986)
For those of us who were obsessed with Miyagi's "wax on, wax off" technique, Part II was a welcome addition to the series.
