Ashanti Pays Tribute To Irv Gotti With Heartfelt Message

Late on Friday, Feb. 7, Ashanti reacted to the heartbreaking news on Instagram, paying tribute to the Murder Inc. co-founder. She posted a series of throwback photos from the Murder Inc. days, including a pic of her 2002 self-entitled debut album featuring hits like ‘Foolish’ and ‘Baby.’

The R&B star poured her heart out in a lengthy caption, saying she felt crushed about how things ended. She admitted their relationship wasn’t in the best place but expressed deep gratitude for everything he did to support her career.

“I cant believe things ended like this.and it makes me so sadWe werent on the best terms the past few years but as Ive always said, through our ups and downs I will forever be grateful for everything that youve done for me. We made history and that will remain infinite..” Ashanti wrote.

She also gave him props for always pushing her and shared that, despite their ups and downs, she’s always kept him in her prayers.

“Ive always respected your musical genius and ability to push me to be my best.. All the greatness and positive things that came, far outweigh the dark and negative times. I have always prayed for you to find peace. Sending love and prayers to the entire family. Rest well. Rest in Peace Irv Ÿ™ŸŸ•Š”

Details About Irv Gotti Passing & His Murder Inc. Legacy

Irv built his legacy at Murder Inc., collaborating with Ashanti, Ja Rule, and DMX. He kicked off his career at Def Jam and later created Murder Inc. under its umbrella, starting with Ja Rule’s debut album, ‘Venni Vetti Vecci.’

The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news of Irv Gotti’s tragic death, with TMZ following up by confirming the story through his family. Back in August 2024, TSR revealed that Irv suffered a stroke, according to his representative at the time. Irv often spoke about his battle with diabetes, admitting he frequently skipped his insulin doses. TMZ also reported that doctors encouraged him to adjust his diet, but he admitted to struggling to stick with the changes.

The day after Irv passed, his kids, Angie, Sonny, and JJ, shared a joint statement on his Instagram. They posted a single photo of him as a child playing with a DJ board and reflected on his legacy.

They also revealed that he spent his final moments surrounded by love and asked for privacy while they mourned their father’s death.

As we navigate this difficult time, we kindly ask for privacy while we grieve the loss of our dad, son, brother, uncle, and friend. We take comfort in knowing that his spirit will live on through his music and the love he shared with all of us. Thank you for your understanding and support during this challenging time.”
