Authorities Search For A Gunman After 2 L.A. County Deputies Are Seriously Injured Following An Ambush Shooting

Two Los Angeles County Deputies have been listed in stable condition, and officials are searching for the gunman after the officers were shot in the head at the Metro Station in Compton.

According to ABC 7, the shooting took place Saturday at the Metro Blue Line station at Willowbrook Avenue and Compton Boulevard around 7 pm.

Surveillance footage showed the person walking up to the deputies as they sat in their patrol car.

The news outlet reports that “a man clad in dark clothing walks up to the parked vehicle at the Metro station, approaches the window on the passenger’s side and fires several times at close range.” The video then shows the suspect running from the scene on foot, and one of the officers stumbles out of the car before the footage ends.

Both officers were shot several times and underwent surgery, and listed in critical condition early Sunday.

The names of the officers were not released, however, they were described as a 31-year-old mother of a 6-year-old boy, was shot in the jaw and arms but is critical but stable condition. The other officer is a 24-year-old man that was struck by gunfire in the forehead, arm, and hand, and at the moment he is being described as alert.

Officials continue to search for the gunman responsible for the shooting, and they are offering a $100,000 reward that can help lead to the suspect’s arrest.

Sheriff Alex Villanueva commented on the shooting and said, “That was a cowardly act. The two deputies were doing their job, minding their own business, watching out for the safety of the people on the train.”

He continued, “To see somebody just walk up and start shooting on them. It pisses me off. It dismays me at the same time. There’s no pretty way to say it.”
