OutKast legend Big Boi is grieving the tragic loss of his beloved uncle, Remoin “Uncle Moonie” Patton Sr., who was killed in a road rage shooting in Atlanta last month. One person had been arrested while the other reportedly turned themselves in this week. Meanwhile, Big Boi has released a statement along with THIS tribute as his family processes the loss of their loved one. Here’s what happened…
On June 16, Atlantas Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard NW turned into a crime scene when 62-year-old Remoin Patton, better known as Uncle Moonie, lost his life in a horrific road rage incident. According to the Atlanta Police Department, the shooting took place shortly after a heated verbal altercation between Uncle Moonie and 18-year-old Jabyrion Crumbley.
Jabyrion, who was accompanied by a female named Janisha Crumbley, 32, allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot Patton. The aftermath resulted in a fatal gunshot wound to Moonie’s back. It prompted him to crash his vehicle into a nearby home. When authorities arrived, sources say they found Uncle Moonie dead at the scene, leaving his family members devastated. While the exact reason for the argument remains unclear, Uncle Moonies life is still tragically lost.
The Atlanta PD didnt waste time bringing some justice to this heartbreaking case. Jabyrion, the alleged shooter, turned himself in on Wednesday, July 2, and is now incarcerated in Fulton County Jail, facing a string of serious charges. Hes been hit with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, per PEOPLE. Additionally, hes being held without bail. 32-year-old Janisha was arrested four days after the shooting and charged with hindering the apprehension of a felon.
Big Boi, one-half of the iconic OutKast duo, is absolutely heartbroken. Hes not holding back his emotions either, as he gave a heartfelt statement to WSB-TV.
Everybody who knows Uncle Moonie heart aches. He wasnt just ‘My’ Uncle, he was Unk to all that met him,” he shared. A moment of rage has… totally pierced the heart of my family forever.
Additionally, Big Boi took to Instagram on Wednesday, July 2. There, he posted a touching tribute with photos and videos of Uncle Moonie through the years. He captioned it, writing, Long Live Uncle Moonie .Miss ya UNC To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Fans were in the comments section sharing their heartfelt condolences as more details began to emerge on Moonies passing.
