Bill Murray has broken his silence on the viral rumor that he was dating Kelis.
On February 28, an exclusive interview with Bill Murray was released via Sway’s Universe on YouTube. About ten minutes into the interview, the actor reflected on his connection to the hip hop industry and mentioned meeting Kelis.
“I got great press that I was dating her, which really raised my cred a lot,” Murray joked before explaining that the press was “false.”
As the conversation continued, Murray reflected on the first time he watched the music video for ‘Got Your Money’ by Ol’ Dirty Bastard. Additionally, Murray explained that was the first he ever saw Kelis.
“That song just kills me. I love that video. And I kept going, ‘Thats the silliest thing. How did I miss that when it came out in the first place? Its so crazy.’ And Im going, ‘Who is that girl with the red hair?’ and it was Kelis,” he said. “I just had to meet her sometime. [But] she turns out to be spectacular.”
Ultimately, Murray doubled down on denying that they ever dated. However, he did seemingly joke about “rebounding” with the singer.
“Hey, you know, one of us could be on the rebound any second,” he joked.
As The Shade Room previously reported, the actor and Kelis were initially linked in reports in June 2023. At the time, The Sun reported that Murray had been spotted supporting Kelis on the sidelines of one of her concerts in London. Furthermore, reports also surfaced alleging Murray was present at additional concerts of the singer’s.
The Sun also added that the pair were also spotted staying at the same hotel in June 2023. Per the outlet, the pair allegedly “bonded” since the passing of Kelis’ husband, Mike Mora, in 2022 and the passing of Murray’s wife, Jennifer Butler, in 2021.
The singer broke her silence on the dating rumor about her and Bill Murray later that month. As The Shade Room previously reported, at the time, a social media user dropped a question under one of her posts on Instagram.
“Maam would you care to address these Bill Murray allegations?!? Cuz damn! What he doing with all that?!? ” the user wrote at the time.
In response, the singer set the record straight.
