Brian Laundrie Confessed To Killing Gabby Petito In His Notebook (Update)

Brian Laundrie Confessed To Killing Gabby Petito In His Notebook (Update)

Both Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie made headlines after Gabby disappeared while they were on a cross-country road trip. Brian returned home without Gabby causing her family to report her missing. Brian quickly became a person of interest, and that led to authorities launching a search for him.

Gabby’s remains were found and identified, and her death was ruled a homicide. The autopsy report revealed that she died from strangulation, and an arrest warrant was issued for Brian. However, Brian was not found until the following month. His belongings, a gun, notebook, and backpack were located at a reserve in Florida. Next to the items were human remains, that was later identified as Brian. After an investigation, it was determined he died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Months later, investigators have revealed that Brian took responsibility for Gabby’s death, and he confessed to it in his notebook.

According to ABC News, on Friday the FBI revealed that inside of his notebook, Brian revealed that he was the one who killed Gabby. They said in a statement, “A review of the notebook revealed written statements by Mr. Laundrie claiming responsibility for Ms. Petito’s death.”

Michael Schneider, FBI Denver Division special agent in charge, added, “All logical investigative steps have been concluded in this case. The investigation did not identify any other individuals other than Brian Laundrie directly involved in the tragic death of Gabby Petito.”

The Laundrie family’s attorney said in a statement, “We can only hope that with today’s closure of the case each family can begin to heal and move forward and find peace in and with the memories of their children.”

In August, prior to Gabby’s disappearance, authorities in Utah responded to a call after someone claimed they saw Brian slap Gabby. Police stopped them for questioning, but allowed them to go because of “insufficient evidence.” Gabby would go missing around August 27th.
