Brock Turner Scheduled To Be Released From Jail On Friday

You all may remember Brock Turner, the Stanford swimmer who was convicted of sexually assaulting a classmate when he was 20-years-old.

His case caused an uproar as he received a light sentence of six months in jail back in June. Now it’s being reported that Turner will be released on Friday, which is three months early.

According to The Chicago Tribune, his early release doesn’t come as a surprise because the Santa Clara County jail, where he is currently serving his time, usually releases inmates early if they maintain a clean record.

Apparently, Judge Aaron Persky gave Turner a light sentence because he felt that a harsher sentence would have a severe impact on him. This of course sparked headlines, causing many to claim this as an action of white privilege.

One person who has been dedicated to having Persky removed from the bench is Stanford law professor Michele Dauber. She is currently the committee chair for a campaign called, “Recall Judge Aaron Persky,” which is committed to making sure his removal goes through. The committee’s aim is to gather 80,000 signatures to do so.

Dauber said,”I think he clearly does not understand violence against women and sex crimes as serious crimes. He treats them like misdemeanors.”

The Recall Judge Aaron Persky committee will hold a rally at the Santa Clara Hall of Justice on Friday, right next to the jail where Turner will be released. At the rally will be multiple rape victims and politicians to speak alongside Dauber.

Roommates what are your thoughts?
