What a waste of public tax money, #Roomies. Police in #Oakland, California, say they arrested a man who filed a fake kidnapping report of his daughter in order for police to find his stolen Mercedes Benz faster.
An Amber Alert was issued for 3-year-old Ciara McCroey on Saturday night when her dad allegedly told police that his car was stolen with her inside sitting in the rear passenger seat, @abc7newsbayarea reports.
The initial report said that the man’s daughter was taken by an “unknown suspect” from Oakland in a 2005 silver Mercedes Benz S430 sedan. Ciara was reported safe by police just hours later and then police later found out that the girl was actually safe with her mother at the time the dad’s car was stolen.
The father is now being accused of filing a false police report, claiming that Ciara was in his stolen car. The Oakland Police Department says that the man “lied to police in hopes police would find car quickly.”
The Oakland PD actually took to Twitter to tell the public what really happened:
“OPD Investigators have arrested the father of the 3 yr old for filing a false police report. Earlier in the day the 3 yr old was w/ father, but at the time the vehicle was stolen the 3 yr old was safe w/ mother. Father lied to police in hopes police would find car quickly,” officials tweeted.
We’re glad the child was never harmed and hope the father doesn’t try to use police resources as his own personal security again.
Stay here for the latest, Roomies!
