Canada Announces They Will Not Send Their Athletes To The Olympic Games In Tokyo Unless It’s Postponed By A Year

As we continue to live in a world where social distancing is becoming the new normal due to the spread of the Coronavirus, many huge events have been postponed until things are under control and it’s safe to hold these events.

One major event many people have been curious about whether it would be postponed is the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. On Sunday, the Canada Olympic Committee announced that they will not be sending their athletes to the games in Tokyo unless the games are postponed by a year.

According to ESPN, the Canadian Olympic Committee said in a statement, “While we recognize the inherent complexities around a postponement, nothing is more important than the health and safety of our athletes and the world community. This is not solely about athlete health — it is about public health.”

They also said they are willing to help the International Olympic Committee (IOC) search for alternatives, but they will not risk their athletes, families, and community for the athletes to continue training for the games.

Canada has become the first country to threaten to pull its athletes from the games. Other counties such as Slovenia, Norway, and Brazil have been encouraging the ICO to postpone the games.

The IOC revealed that they would announce whether they would postpone the 2020 games at some point within the next four weeks.

The 2020 Olympic Games are scheduled to take place on July 24th through August 9th.

Roommates, do you agree the Olympics should be postponed until next year?
