The account executive is responsible for achieving advertising revenue targets by building agency and client direct accounts, developing, and executing effective digital marketing strategies that utilize all of The Shade Room (TSR) and The Shade Room Teens media platforms.


  • Develop a target list of advertisers and create specific plans for generating and increasing advertising sales.
  • Source new clients, maintain an active schedule of meetings/appointments and negotiate contracts.
  • Develop and present custom multi-media programs and sales proposals that are optimized for each social platform, email and/or SEO.
  • Communicate the value and brand strength of The Shade Room to advertisers and agencies. Discuss creative ideas and advertising strategies and assist clients in developing advertising campaigns. Ensuring ideas are in line with TSR and client’s brand guidelines.
  • Oversee client campaigns and regularly communicate performance results.
  • Consistently meet and exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual advertising revenue quotas.
  • Manage client budgets and allocate towards advertising campaigns.
  • Meet with clients regularly and serve as the contact between them and the creative team.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to design creative campaigns on behalf of client.
  • Ensure all projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Address issues and delays in projects.
  • Have a strong working financial knowledge, able to develop annual budgets, forecast revenue and review billing and projections for clients.
  • Create quarterly, weekly, monthly, reporting of project status/results; analyze data and provide sound insights on plan and ideas for change/optimization moving forward.
  • Pull data and research components needed for new business pitches.
  • Ensure that outstanding billings are accurate and collected in a timely manner.
  • Become thoroughly educated on relevant client industries, applicable influencers in each industry, product information, competitive landscape and overall trendspotting for proactive/reactive timely social activations.
  • Effectively monitor cross-channel brand health and brand reputation via social conversations on all platforms necessary for specific account(s).
  • 10-20% domestic travel.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Passionate about Black culture and entertainment.
  • Familiarity with advertising agencies, account and media operations, ability to navigate through agencies to reach key decision makers.
  • Excellent understanding of advertising methods and techniques.
  • Outstanding negotiation skills.
  • Full awareness of creative processes and techniques – including digital platforms
  • Great ability to manage budgets on behalf of clients.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and problem-solving skill.
  • Excellent project management and organization skills.
  • Ability to work successfully with teams on multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • A pro-active approach to creative projects.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent organization and presentation skills, high level of computer skills including but not limited to Canva, Google Workspace, and Microsoft software (Word, PowerPoint and Excel).
  • Salesforce experience is a plus.
  • Legal right to work in the United States.

A Bachelor’s degree in advertising, marketing, business administration, or another relevant field. At least 3+ years of experience as an advertising account executive or related sales position in the online/digital media industry.


This is a full-time and exempt position. The annual salary range is $65,000 – $90,000, plus a quarterly sales bonus or commission plan. Annual salary compensation will be based off of experience and local cost of living.
