Born on March 17, 1992, John Boyega grew up in Peckham, South London. His Nigerian parents, Samson and Abigail, were immigrants. His father was a priest, and he always supported his son’s ambition to go out to the world and make something of himself.
Boyega showed a fantastic talent for acting when he was just five years old. When Boyega came to his father with an idea of becoming an actor, his dad helped him gain financial assistance to finish acting school and receive formal education in acting.
With the help of his parents, he nurtured his acting talent. Things were set in motion when he was noticed by Teresa Early, the director of Theatre Peckham. With a bit of parental support and financial assistance from a hardship fund, Boyega started his journey of becoming an actor. He went on to join Theatre Peckham, where his acting career started.
Boyega was so committed to his acting that he went to take classes after school hours with other children from his neighborhood. Things really started moving forward for him in 2003. Boyega received admission to Westminster City School, where he got a chance to participate in numerous school plays and various shows.
After going to South Thames College at the Wandsworth campus, Boyega decided to continue his pursuit by studying for a course in National Diploma in Performing Arts.
John Boyega made six appearances at the Tricycle Theatre and National Theatre, and he received training at Hackney, the Identity School of Acting. In 2011, he landed a role in the sci-fi comedy movie called Attack the Block, where he played Moses.
It was this role that put him on the path to stardom. He continued acting in various movies like Junkhearts, Da Brick, and so on. Despite some minor setbacks, Boyega kept his faith and continued working hard, waiting for that one role that would make a movie star out of him.
He accepted roles in movies like My Murder, Half of a Yellow, and Imperial Dreams. In 2015, he finally received an offer he couldn’t refuse to play a lead role in a legendary Hollywood blockbuster, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
The movie was a huge success, and a box office hit. From that moment on, Boyega was on the map for every significant project coming up. He also made a huge success by appearing in a sequel to a famous 2013 blockbuster, Pacific Rim, which he helped produce, with assistance from Legendary Entertainment.
