Early Life

Mac Miller was born as Malcolm McCormick on January 19th, 1992, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His mother was of Jewish descent, while his father was a Christian. They both were esteemed artists; his father was an architect, and his mother was a photographer.

He attended the prestigious Winchester Thurston School and later went on to finish Taylor Allderdice High. Mike Miller was interested in music from a very young age. He was only six when he started to play the guitar, and from then on, he became a self-taught multi-instrumental musician.

He went through various musical genres in his amateur career – at first, he wanted to be a singer. Later, when he was 14, he started rapping and decided to dedicate the rest of his life to it. Everything after this decision is the reason why we all remember him today.

Career

He was just 14 years old when he released a mixtape called But My Mackin’ Ain’t Easy. He was part of the group called The Ill Spoken. Back then, he was called EZ Mac and was part of the group with another Pittsburgh based rapper Beddie.

In 2009, Mac Miller competed in the MC Rhyme Callisthenics at Shadow Lounge, where he was featured among the final four competing artists.

His official career began in 2010 when he signed a deal with the independent label Rostrum Records. A new mixtape called K.I.D.S. inspired by the movie Kids was released the same year. The first significant breakthrough of his career was with the Incredibly Dope Tour, which was a great success.

His first album, Blue Slide Park, rose to the number one position of the Billboard 200 chart. After this initial debut success, he became a national celebrity practically overnight.

His first appearance on the TV was an appearance in the VH1 show called Single Ladies. He later acted in the MTVs famous play Jams Fab Five.

His second album, Watching Movies With the Sound Off, was released in June 2013 and was both critically acclaimed and reached international praise from fans.

In 2013, Mac Miller launched his own record label REMember Music, named after one of his friends who had died. Everything he published afterward was an absolute success, which made him one of the most famous American rappers.

After settling down all of his obligations to the deal with Rostrum Records in 2014, he created his own label in cooperation with Warner Bros studio.

In September 2015, he released an album called GO:OD AM. In July of 2016, he announced a new record album called The Divine Feminine, which was released later that year./p>

He always thought out of the box. The matter of creativity in his music was still in front of commercial success and material profits. He started as a frat-rapper in the early 2010s. However, his music evolved into more experimenting paths, resulting in jazz-inflected songs in the last two of his albums.

When he died, his family stated, “He was a bright light in this world for his family, friends, and fans. Thank you for your prayers. Please respect our privacy. There are no further details as to the cause of his death at this time.”

Almost a decade after K.I.D.S. was released, it made it to streaming services. This wasn’t the last-minute decision. Rostrum Records wanted to honor him once again, making the breakthrough mixtape available on streaming services, including Spotify and Apple Music.

The original plan was to release it earlier in 2019. Due to some unexpected circumstances, it was delayed, yet they managed to accomplish the task. Benjy Grindberg, the founder of Rostrum Records, wrote on the Instagram post, “It has been challenging, but we are getting through it. We miss Mac every day, and we see our job as making sure his music lives on. We love you, Mac.” It was released on August 13th, 2019, on the 9th anniversary of the mixtape.
