Quavo

Quavo is a member of the widely known hip-hop group, Migos. With fellow members, Takeoff and Offset, the group has taken over the rap scene with a number of chart-topping tracks. In addition to work with the group, Quavo has had quite the successful solo career.

Early Life

Quavo was born Quavious Keyate Marshall on April 2, 1991, in Gwinnett County, Georgia, near Atlanta. Quavo’s father passed away when he was just four years old, leaving his mother, who was a hairdresser, to care for the family.

Marshall was a great athlete in high school. When attending Berkmar High School, Quavo was the starting quarterback during his senior season in 2009. After finishing the football season, Marshall dropped out before graduation.

Career

In 2008, Quavo and a few family members formed the group Migos. Quavo was joined by his nephew, Takeoff, and cousin, Offset, to create the group that was originally known as Polo Club.

In 2011, the group released their first mixtape. Juug Season was Migos’ first full-length project. In 2012, Migos released their second mixtape, No Label.

In 2013, Migos experienced their first taste of success with the release of their single Versace. The single was remixed by Drake, catapulting it to success. The track peaked at number 99 on the Billboard Hot 100.

At this time, Quavo decided to try out a solo career. He released his first solo single, Champions, which peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 71.

Migos’ second studio album, Culture, was a significant success reaching number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Following this success, Quavo was featured on multiple hits such as Post Malone’s CongratulationsDJ Khaled’s I’m the One, Drake’s Portland, and more. In 2017, Quavo was featured with Lil Uzi Vert and Travis Scott on The Fate of the Furious: The Album for the song Go Off, which was certified Gold by RIAA.

In 2017, Quavo announced an eight-song collaborative album with Travis Scott, Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho.

In 2018, Migos released Culture II, the group’s third studio album. This same year, Quavo announced his debut solo album, Quavo Huncho. The album was certified Gold by the RIAA. Before its release, Quavo released singles, Lamb Talk, Bubble Gum, and Working Me. The latter peaked at number 52 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In the News

In 2015, all three members of Migos were arrested at their concert at Georgia Southern University. Quavo was charged with marijuana possession, possession of unspecified Schedule II narcotic, possession of a firearm during commission of a crime, and possession of a firearm in a school safety zone. He was released on bail and received a 12-month sentence, which was suspended.

Recently Quavo caused an altercation at a Paris Fashion Week party. When showing support for Offset’s new clothing line, he was stopped at the entrance. Once let into the party, he was upset and threw a punch at one of the people working the party.
