Early Life
Born David Brewster, Jr. in East Harlem, New York, Dave East was passionate about basketball before entering the world of music. He played both football and basketball at Springbrook High School and continued working on his dream of becoming a professional basketball player when he got into college.
He attended the University of Richmond for a year, before transferring to Towson University. After a year and a half, he dropped out due to a gun charge that led him to prison. His basketball dreams were over, and he started focusing on his musical career.
Career
Dave East has been rapping since he was 12, but he started seriously focusing on music after prison. In 2010, he released his debut mixtape, Change of Plans, and continues to make great music to this day.
In 2014, his music reached the ears of his favorite rapper, Nas, who signed him to the label Mass Appeal, and helped him build an ever-greater buzz.
In 2016, he received recognition in the XXL Magazine, being featured in its 2016 Freshman Class. Dave East started really topping the charts and began collaborating with a number of world-renowned artists, including Wiz Khalifa, Lloyd Banks, and T.I.

Dave East has been involved with Millie Colon and has a daughter with her, Kairi Chanel Brewster. They first dated from 2015 till 2016 and then got together again in 2018. They separated again in 2019.
