Dwyane Wade

Dwyane Wade is an accomplished NBA superstar with three NBA champions’ titles. He is among a few professional basketball players with more than ten All-Star selections. Wade retired in 2019 as Miami Heat’s all-time leader.

Early Life

Dwyane Wade was born as Dwyane Tyrone Wade Jr., on January 17, 1982, in Chicago, Illinois. His parents divorced when Dwyane was still a baby boy. His mother, Jolinda, took care of him and his sister, Tragil. His mom barely made ends meet, and the family ended up on welfare. When Wade was eight years old, his sister took him to his father’s house, who had remarried, and left him. This move helped him stay out of trouble.

Career

After his father moved to Robbins, Illinois, Wade started playing basketball at the local recreational center. He followed the steps of his older stepbrother, who was an accomplished star in the local high school’s team. Wade went into Harold L. Richards High School and made a name for himself playing basketball. By his senior year, Wade was averaging 11 rebounds and 27 points per game.

He attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He helped the university’s team enter its first Conference USA championship and NCAA tournament’s Final Four. After his incredible performance against the Kentucky Wildcats, Wade caught the attention of the big leagues. In the 2003 NBA draft, he was selected by the Miami Heat. In 2004, he made it to the NBA All-Rookie team.

His impressive performance started in 2006 when he helped Miami Heat defeat the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals. Wade even received the prestigious title of the NBA Finals MVP. In 2008, he averaged 30.2 points per game and got the NBA scoring title. When Wade resigned with the Heat, he was a part of the infamous “The Big Three” alongside Chris Bosh and LeBron James.

Unfortunately, in the following years, injuries caught up with Wade, which reflected his time on the court. After 13 seasons with the Heat, Wade transferred to the Chicago Bulls in 2016. The following year, he joined Cleveland only to go back to the Heat in the middle of the season. In 2019, Wade officially retired.
