Early Life
Jaden Smith was born in Malibu, California, on July 8, 1998. His parents are Will Smith, a famous US actor, and rapper, and Jada Pinkett Smith, a famous actress and music artist.
Growing up beside the parents so deeply involved with the entertainment industry, inspired Jaden to pursue the same path as his parents did. Even his younger sister, Willow Smith, is a famous singer and actress, while his older brother Trey Smith is a DJ.
Before he became famous, Jaden did a lot of charity work being an ambassador for Project Zambia. He is devoted to helping Zambia children who lost their parents to AIDS.
His parents were focused on raising him, minimizing the privileges of being a kid of famous actors. In one interview, his mother said: “We wanted them to see the reality of life and have a normal experience of having to stand in line and get tickets.”
Career
Jaden made his debut as an actor in 2003. He was only six years old when he appeared on a UPN show, All of Us. His big-screen debut followed in 2009. At the age of 9, Jaden appeared in The Pursuit of Happyness, a movie that tells the story of a homeless salesman, Christopher Gardner, who manages to completely twist his fate and become a wealthy stockbroker.
Jaden played the role of Gardner’s son. His outstanding performance made him famous. Even The New York Times recognized him as an actor referring to him as “likable in the extreme.” This role brought him an MTV Movie Award for Breakthrough Performance.
In April 2008, Jaden guest-starred in a The Suite Life of Zach and Cody episode on the Disney Channel. He got cast for the role in the remake of the classic Sci-Fi thriller The Day the Earth Stood Still, appearing on-screen with Jennifer Connely and Keanu Reeves. For the role in this movie, he received the Saturn Award for Best Performance by a Young Actor.
It was 2010 when Jaden had his big break. He got a role in the remake of The Karate Kid. He acted alongside Jackie Chan. The Karate Kid was a box-office smash, and critics were more than satisfied with Jaden’s acting and karate skills.
While he was working on the film set, Jaden started experimenting with music. He collaborated with Justin Bieber and recorded the official theme song for the movie, named Never Say Never.
In 2013, Jaden appeared with his father in After Earth. The movie was not received well. Still, Jaden’s acting talent was once more recognized, and he added a nomination as the MTV Movie Awards for the Summer’s Biggest Teen Bad Ass Start to his achievements.
The latest projects he worked on include television series The Get Down and Slate Kitchen.
Jaden released two mixtapes, The Cool Cafe and The Cool Tape Vol. 2. His music career officially continued in 2017 when he announced his first studio album Syre. The album had several tracks featuring contributions from Willow Smith and ASAP Rocky. The album was well-received, and it peaked at 25th position on the US Billboard 200.
Jaden is very popular on Instagram. He decided to surprise his followers on his 20th birthday and released Syre: The Electric Album via this platform.
The new EP arrived the following year. Erys was released in April 2019. Between the EP and full album release, Jaden delivered the single Again. The full album Erys came out in July 2019.
