Early Life
Jussie was born on June 21st, 1983 in Santa Rosa, California. Jussie Smollett began acting from a very early age. He landed a role in the well-known children’s movie The Mighty Ducks in 1992 at the age of 9. He starred alongside Emilio Estevez and Joshua Jackson.
In 1994, Jussie Smollett and his real-life siblings starred in the sitcom On Our Own. After this, he took a hiatus from the acting world.
Recent Acting Career
Jussie Smollett made a comeback in 2014 starring in films such as Ask Me Anything and landing a guest star role on the popular TV drama Revenge.
In 2015, he landed his most significant role as Jamal Lyon on the TV musical drama, Empire. Smollett came out as gay in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres.
In the News
In January 2019, Jussie Smollett claimed to be attacked in Chicago. He claimed two men put a noose around his neck, poured an unknown chemical substance on him, and yelled homophobic comments at him.
The Chicago police immediately launched an investigation into the allegations. Soon after it was discovered that the allegations were false, and that Smollett had hired the men and proceeded to file a false police report to raise his profile in attempts for a higher salary.
Smollett has since been arrested and charged with a class 4 felony, but since has been cleared of all charges.
