Michael Jeffrey Jordan was born on February 17, 1963, in Brooklyn, New York. He grew up in what most consider a happy family. With Michael and his four siblings, it was never quiet in the house of Delores, who was a bank teller and James, a maintenance worker at General Electric.
The house Michael lived in had a basketball court in the backyard, courtesy of his father James, who built it on his own. Thanks to his competitive spirit, Michael stayed dedicated to the game throughout his teen years.
He enrolled at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1981. It only took months for Jordan to become a vital part of the university’s basketball team.
Jordan’s career started with him leaving the college in 1984 to join the NBA. The Chicago Bulls drafted him even though his competitors were none other than Charles Barkley, John Stockton, Hakeem Olajuwon, and Sam Bowie.
His first season, he helped Chicago Bulls make it to the playoffs. At the end of the season, he was selected for the All-Star Game and won NBA Rookie of the Year.
An injury held him back in the 1985-86 season. But in the following season, Michael Jordan became the first player since Wilt Chamberlain to score more than 3,000 points during a season. His first NBA championship came in 1990, and everything else is history. Jordan scored five more NBA championships and five MVP awards.
In 1995, Michael tried himself in minor league baseball but soon returned to basketball. He retired in 1999 but came back in 2001 for two more seasons on the Washington Wizards. Finally, he retired in 2003. He is also famous for his partnership with Nike and Air Jordan basketball sneakers and the prominent role in the movie Space Jam.
