SZA was born as Solana Imani Rowe on the 8th of November 1990 in Maplewood, New Jersey. As the child of a mixed-race, Muslim family, she received a traditional Muslim upbringing, enrolling in a Muslim after school program.
She was subject to bullying in high school, which has led to her becoming introverted and shy. SZA has been a practicing Muslim for all of her life and states her religion as one of the biggest inspirators in her musical career.
Before becoming a musician, Solana was an excellent gymnast. She stopped her gymnastics career because of distractions and has since primarily focused on her musical career.
She released her debut EP in 2012, which lead her on a steady road to a successful career. After a couple of EP releases, she has found her breakthrough with the release of her debut album, CTRL
CTRL was critically acclaimed and cemented SZA as an amazing and successful recording artist. Additionally, SZA’s fame comes from collaboration with numerous other superstars in the genre such as Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, and Kendrick Lamar.
She has written numerous songs for these superstars, leading to her becoming a very sought-after songwriter. She is a five-time Grammy nominee but has yet to take him a win. She found large mainstream success with the track All-Star which was made in collaboration with Kendrick Lamar for the smash hit movie Black Panther. The song peaked the Billboards top 100 charts. .

SZA has found herself in the news recently with the announcement of her second studio album, titled Brace Urself. The album is set to release in late 2019.
