Early Life
Teyana was born on December 10, 1990. Her father left when she was really young leaving her mother to raise Teyana on her own. She grew up in Harlem, New York City. She started expressing her interest in music when she was only 9 years of age. Soon, she started participating in national competitions which helped her make contacts and practice her stage act.
Career
After a couple of years of competing, Teyana decided to start a professional journey in 2006. She got her start by appearing in the Ring Alarm music video, Beyoncé’s hit single. After that, she was recognized by Pharrel Williams, and in 2007, she was signed by Star Trak Entertainment.
Her debut single dropped in 2008. Google Me was the single that led to From a Planet Called Harlem, her debut mixtape.
Her success in the music industry is tied to her friendship with Kanye West which started in 2010. She composed the intro and chorus of notable tracks including Dark Fantasy and Hell of a Life.
At the same time, Teyana worked on her career as an actress. In 2010, she appeared in Stomp the Yard and then the following film Stomp the Yard: Homecoming.

Teyana Taylor has been married to Iman Shumpert, a professional basketball player since 2016, with whom she has a daughter.
Before the relationship with Iman, she was engaged to Brandon Jennings from 2011 to 2014.

Teyana manages to be continuously in the headlines. Apparently, Kehlani, who is leading a campaign to book Teyana Taylor her next acting gig, says that she strongly believes Teyana is a perfect choice to play Catwoman in the Matt Reeves Batman Series.
She also contributed to raising awareness about sex trafficking in Georgia.
