Early life

Born on July 8th, 1991, in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, Thuso Nokwanda Mbedu became an orphan when she was just a toddler due to her parents passing away too early. Left with only her grandmother as her legal guardian, Thuso lived a turbulent life before she was able to make a name for herself.

It was not before she was 23 that she managed to get her first TV debut. Unfortunately, her grandmother passed away before that. She attended Pietermaritzburg Girls High School as a fresher and moved to the University of the Witwatersrand when she was 18.

After finishing Performing Arts Management and Physical Theatre, she attended the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York, USA. In 2012, things finally started working out for the better for the young actress when she was finally offered a small role in Scandal, where she portrayed a wild child and a Journalist student.

Career

In 2014, Thuso received an offer for her first minor but serious role in the second season of the Mzansi, Magic soapie Isibaya. After living without a single job offer for more than six months, Thuso finally got back on her feet in 2016 when she was offered to appear in the teen drama series Is’thunszi.

She finally managed to get some spotlight on her by appearing in the Amazon Video historical limited series The Underground Railroad, which was her international debut as well. After that, she started appearing in a lot of TV shows and movies.
