Early Life
Tyrese was born to Priscilla Murray Gibson in 1978 in Los Angeles. His father left him and his three siblings in 1983.
He’s commented how he’d at times go to school simply so he could eat, but that hasn’t stopped him from following his dreams.
In high school, he got a musical and acting education that proved to be vital for his future career. His talents were somewhat noticed when he landed a Coca-Cola commercial after winning a talent competition when he was only 14.
Thanks to this commercial, he landed the gigs in Guess and Tommy Hilfiger ad campaigns.
Career
Tyrese’s career took off after he signed a deal with RCA Records and released his debut single Nobody Else in 1998. The single peaked at number 36 on the Billboard Hot 100, and soon after he released his debut studio album, Tyrese. His highest charting single from the album was Sweet Lady which earned him a GRAMMY nomination for Best R&B Male Vocal Performance.
His latest studio album Black Rose was released in 2015 and became the first number 1 album of his career so far.
As far as his acting career goes, he’s played roles in movies such as Baby Boy, Four Brothers, Transformers, and The Fast and the Furious among others.
Tyrese’s also released a comic book Tyrese Gibson’s MAYHEM!, and his first book How to Get Out of Your Own Way went on to become a New York Times bestseller.
In the News
Tyrese Gibson is set to get together with late Paul Walker’s brother Cody this summer and deliver a car show in the UK. He’s been Cody’s guest on the show FuelFest which was created as a tribute to Paul in 2013.
