Wale was born Olubowale Victor Akintimehin on September 21st, 1984, in Washington, DC. His parents belong to the ethnic group Yoruba and immigrated to the U.S. in 1979.
While Wale spent most of his childhood in D.C. when he was ten years old, his family moved to Montgomery County in Maryland.
He received football scholarships and attended Robert Morris College and Virginia State University before transferring to Bowie State. He’s always had an interest in music. However, he only started considering it as a career choice when he was in college, so eventually, he dropped out of school and began to pursue a career in music.
Wale debuted with the song Rhyme of the Century, which quickly started being played on the local radio. The song had him featured in The Source Magazine, and this eventually led to him being offered a contract from the local label Studio 43.
His next release was Dig Dug (Shake It), which was a massive hit. Wale’s mixtape 100 Miles and Running came out in 2007 and was a huge success. It featured appearances from Mark Ronson, Amy Winehouse, and Lily Allen, among others, and received positive reviews from critics.
In 2011, his album Ambition came out, which proved to be even more successful. It debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200 and garnered Wale thousands of new fans.
To date, he’s released six studio albums, each of them more successful than the next.

We haven’t heard much from Wale since the release of his 2017 album Shine, but it’s now apparent he’s been busy working on his next project. On October 11th, Wale released his latest album, Wow… That’s Crazy, which debuted at number 7 on the Billboard 200. Make sure to check it out!
