Born on September 25th, 1968 Will Smith grew up in Philadelphia with his older sister Pamela and younger siblings Harry and Ellen.
He started rapping when he was only 12 years old, and although he was a good student, never had the desire to go to college, but rather wanted to focus on his rapping career.
Although there were rumors that he turned down a scholarship to attend the MIT, he dispelled them saying he never planned on pursuing a higher education.
Smith’s career in the music industry started when he formed a hip-hop duo named DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince with his childhood friend. Their debut single Girls Ain’t Nothing but Trouble was released in 1987, and Smith quickly became known for his light-hearted lyrics, and profanity-free rhymes.
Rock the House, their debut studio album, followed soon after, however, their success came with their sophomore album He’s the DJ, I’m the Rapper. Its second single, Parents Just Don’t Understand, earned them their first-ever GRAMMY for Best Rap Performance.
Will’s acting career started with The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air which lead to his Hollywood breakthrough. Some of his earliest roles were in Six Degrees of Separation, Bad Boys, and Independence Day. He became an international star after the release of Men in Black.
