A Chicago teen who recently went viral after dropping into a split while crossing the stage has officially received her diploma, per PEOPLE. She previously claimed school officials withheld it because of the celebratory moment. The situation sparked a heated debate online, with many social media users questioning whether the punishment fit the act.
Tyvion Campbell, an 18-year-old graduate of Chicago Tech Academy, went viral after dropping into a split while crossing the stage during her graduation ceremony at Chicago’s Harold Washington Cultural Center. In a TikTok story time, Campbell claimed she was not handed her diploma after completing the split. She also added that she was later escorted out of the ceremony to meet with school administrators. Campbell alleged that the principal criticized her for making the moment about herself and told her she would need to figure out a way to “make up” for her actions before receiving her diploma.
After days of online debate and widespread social media support, Campbell shared an update revealing that she has officially received her diploma. The announcement comes after her story generated millions of views on social media and sparked conversations about graduation celebrations and what constitutes appropriate behavior during the ceremony. Despite the controversy, Campbell is looking ahead to her future. The recent graduate, who earned a 3.5 GPA, plans to attend Georgia State University this fall and study business administration.
