Chick-fil-A Testing Out Food Delivery Robots To “Enhance Restaurant Operations”

We know how much you love the food and service at Chick-fil-A and now the fan-favorite company is taking steps to ensure its stellar reputation remains intact. In a recent announcement, Chick-fil-A confirmed its plans to test out food delivery robots to not only add to its customer service experience, but also to “enhance restaurant operations.”

@11Alive reports, via a recent press release, Atlanta-based fast food chain Chick-fil-A announced it will be testing out new delivery robots at a limited number of restaurants in three states in food courts and urban areas. California, Florida and Texas will be the first states to test out the delivery robots and if the response is positive, the robots are likely to branch out to other areas throughout the U.S. Speaking about its new robot delivery method, Chick-fil-A said the robots will “enhance restaurant operations, cut delivery costs and provide great-tasting food with the consistency our guests expect.”

The process works like this, customers can order food through an app similar to the regular Chick-fil-A delivery option—however, if the customer is within a one-mile radius of the store location, their order will be delivered by one of the robots. Then, the customer receives a text message informing them their food has arrived via robot with detailed instructions on how to retrieve it. Chick-fil-A also says the delivery robots will be equipped with “artificial intelligence systems and advanced depth-perception cameras, which allow them to navigate traffic patterns, pedestrians, and even maneuver through car and bike lanes, busy malls and on sidewalks.”

If you’re wondering about your food getting cold during travel, the robots are all insulated to make sure food remains at its ideal temperature. Additionally, customers will receive updates throughout the process to follow along the delivery robot’s journey.

Chick-fil-A isn’t the first company to test out robots for delivery services, as companies like Amazon, DoorDash and Uber Eats.
