The 1975 film, Cooley High, will be the next classic film to get a remake through MGM. Set in 1960s Chicago, the film focused on a group of high school seniors trying to survive during their final days at Edwin G. Cooley Vocational High School.
According to Deadline, rapper and actor Common will star in the film, as well as produce under his Freedom Road Productions.
Other producers on board include, DeVon Franklin, who you all may know as Megan Goods husband. He will produce through his Franklin Entertainment; Tony Krantz will produce through Flame Ventures. His father Steve Krantz was one of the producers for the original film.
Seth Rosenfeld will write the films script.
Cooley Highs original cast includedLawrence Hilton Jacobs as Richard Cochise Morris and Glynn Turman as Leroy Preach Jackson.
The film was set with a $75,000 budget and went on to make over $13 million at the box office.
There has been no cast announced for the film, but we can only imagine how dope this film is going to be.
