Denzel Washington Recalls The Time He Told Chadwick Boseman To Marry Taylor Simone Ledward

While preparing for the release of the new Netflix film “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” the cast and crew of the film are speaking about the significance of the story that the film tells, and the performances that went into making this film possible. The film is an adaptation of the play, which was written by August Wilson.

As many of you already know, the upcoming release will also mark the final film from the late Chadwick Boseman.

One of the people that were recently interviewed in promotion of the film was the legendary Denzel Washington, who is a producer on the project.

While speaking CBS Sunday Morning, Denzel reflected on Chadwick’s performance in the film and recalled the time that he told Chadwick that he should marry Taylor Simone Ledward, after seeing how she cared for him, while he was on set.

Back in August, Chadwick passed following a battle with colon cancer, a battle which not too many people were aware of. Nonetheless, he still continued to carry out his commitment to portraying some of our favorite characters on screen.

Denzel said, “It’s fascinating that nobody knew. Well, credit to him; he kept it to himself. It was nobody’s business. He was there to deliver and he delivered.”

“Certain members of his team knew. His wife was there. They weren’t even married yet,” Denzel continued. “And I used to watch how she took care of him, and I actually said to him, I said, ‘Man, you know, you need to put a ring on that finger,’ cause she kept her eye on him and she watched him. And I’m like, ‘Man, she loves that guy.’ You know, but I didn’t know what we know now.”

It was revealed that Chadwick and Taylor were married when his team released an official statement that announced his passing.
