Every fashion geek knows it’s that time of year again… New York Fashion Week!!! Celebrities are flocking the streets of NYC to see the latest “it” fashions strut down the runway! Well one designer seized the opportunity to use his fashion to speak out on injustices in a unique way!
Founder and designer of Pyer Moss, 28-year-old Kerby Jean-Raymond, is based in New York and is one of the few black designers that grabs the fashion world by force whenever he brings a collection down the runway and this year he definite took it there!
The spring/summer 2016 collection of Pyer Moss was dedicated to bringing awareness to police brutality. Before the models walked the runway, a video was shown depicting police brutality in the black community.
The collection included pieces with the names of victims to police brutality and certain phrases that became famous during the time of protests and uprising like Eric Garner’s last words “I can’t breathe.” The models were of all shades and colors and you could tell a lot of thought was put into every detail of this collection.
Pyer Moss is expensive but not Kanye level expensive, so there is a possibility for you to snag a few items that you like! It’s great to see people using the their platforms to bring attention to what’s going on in the world today! Let’s chat below!
