After a highly anticipated and intense race, Donald Trump has secured the title of the 47th President of the United States, according to reports from CNN. He narrowly defeated Kamala Harris in the tight race. This victory brings him back to office after his first term as the 45th president from 2017 to 2021. Ultimately, either candidate needed to secure 270 votes to win. The final results revealed that Trump held 276 electoral votes, while Harris received 223.
The 2024 presidential election wrapped up early on Wednesday, November 6th, when Donald Trump secured the presidency following wins in key battleground states like Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, per Fox News. After speculation that vote counts might extend, multiple networks called the race for Trump. In his victory speech in Florida, Trump pledged to usher in what he called the “golden age of America.”
“Every citizen, I will fight for you, for your family and your future. Every single day, I will be fighting for you. And with every breath in my body, I will not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe and prosperous America that our children deserve and that you deserve. This will truly be the golden age of America. That’s what we have to have. This is a magnificent victory for the American people that will allow us to make America great again,” Trump said.
The president-elect also described his campaign as the “greatest political movement of all time” and “promised to fix everything about our country.”
“We’re going to help our country here. We have a country that needs help, and it needs help very badly. We’re going to fix our borders. We’re going to fix everything about our country and we’ve made history for a reason tonight. And the reason is going to be just that. We overcame obstacles that nobody thought possible,” Trump added.

AP reports that issues such as the economy, climate, abortion, foreign policy, and immigration dominated the discussions during this year’s presidential election. In fact, voters considered these issues more significant in 2024 than in 2020. Voters placed five times more importance on immigration this election cycle compared to the previous one. Furthermore, crime and gun control have emerged as two key issues that were specific to this year’s election.
Per USA Today the 47th President of the United States will take the oath of office on January 20, 2025. This inauguration will mark a significant change as the new leader officially takes over The White House. Key steps leading up to the event include the states certifying electors by December 11, 2024. Then, Congress will meet in a joint session on January 6, 2025, to finalize the election results. On Inauguration Day, January 20, 2025, the President-elect will be sworn in at 12p.m. ET on the west front of the U.S. Capitol.
