Drakeo The Ruler’s Mother Says She Plans To Sue Following His Passing (Update)

Over the weekend, rapper Drakeo The Ruler, unfortunately, passed away after he was stabbed while backstage at the “One Upon A Time In LA” Festival. Now his mother says she is planning to sue following his passing.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Drakeo’s mother, Darrylene Corniel, spoke about his passing and her plans for legal action. She said, “We plan to sue. This happened backstage at an event. Someone has to be held accountable.” It was noted that she believes the venue’s security failed when it came to their job.

Corniel continued to say, “I need this to be out there. I need people to know. And I do want justice for my son. And I do believe that justice will be served. I will not rest until justice is served.”

She shared details about what she learned about the night of the stabbing and said, “He was hit in his neck. I saw him when I went to the hospital. They said it’s a homicide, so I wasn’t able to hug him or kiss him or anything like that. I had to look at him through a window.” She continued to share that Drakeo was backstage at the festival with a small group of people, which also included his brother Ralfy the Plug. A witness told her that a large crowd of about 40 to 60 people arrived and some folks from the crowd “swamped” Drakeo and his team.

“Everything just happened so quickly. They started trying to jump them,” said Corniel.

It was also mentioned that Drakeo’s brother tried to protect him. Corniel added, “He was trying to fight, but when he turned around, he could see his brother with blood gushing out of him. He was like, ‘Did they stab you?’ It was like, there were so many of them.”

While the motive behind the fatal stabbing is unclear, she believes that jealousy played a role in her son’s life being taken away, telling Rolling Stone, “It is such a shame how much jealousy and envy can make people stoop to such low tactics to try to destroy another individual because of fame and progress.”

Rolling Stone reports that a source says everyone that was backstage at the festival was supposed to go through a metal detector and a screening area patrolled by K9s so that officials could detect gun powder and other explosives.

Investigators say the incident involved “a suspect wielding an edged weapon.”

As previously reported, artists such as Drake, Tory Lanez and Snoop Dogg spoke out about Drakeo The Ruler’s passing as they sent their condolences.
