Dwight Howard Sets The Record Straight On Sexuality Rumors In New Interview: “I’m Not Gay”

Late last year, the media frenzy surrounding allegations that basketball star Dwight Howard was involved in a gay relationship with Masin Elijie reached a fever pitch—and the NBA superstar has kept relatively quiet about the reports…until now.

In his first sit-down interview since the situation unfolded, Dwight recently appeared on ‘Fair Game’ on FS1 with Kristine Leahy, where he offered a detailed response to the allegations that he says made him initially “never want to come outside again.”

When asked by Leahy directly about his sexuality, Dwight firmly responded, “I’m not gay.” He revealed that he received a lot of negativity from people who assumed he was gay, causing him to now understand why people are afraid to come out publicly.

Speaking about how the allegations originated, he said this:

“It upset me because I didn’t even know who the person was. Why would somebody who I’ve never met, never had any contact with make up a whole story about me?”

Dwight went on to add that the entire situation has severely taken an emotional toll on him. He said he has spent the last several months looking back on his life and how he wants to be remembered—specifically where his children are concerned.

Masin Elije’s lawsuit, which alleged that Dwight threatened him physically for going public with their alleged relationship, is still pending.

The full interview with Dwight Howard airs on FS1 on July 17th.
