Eddie Murphy Confirms Hilarious ‘Chappelle’s Show’ Story About Playing Basketball With Prince

Roommates, one of the most iconic sketches from the “Chappelle’s Show” is the late Charlie Murphy recalling when he and his brother Eddie Murphy played basketball with Prince. In a recent interview, Eddie confirmed that the basketball game definitely happened and was just as hilarious as it was on the show.

While appearing on the latest episode of “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” to promote the upcoming sequel to his classic film “Coming To America,” Eddie Murphy confirmed that the story about his unforgettable night playing basketball with Prince and his brother Charlie Murphy actually happened almost as identically as it played out on “Chappelle’s Show.”

Eddie explained the unexpected basketball game this way:

“That is totally and absolutely accurate. My brother was like, ‘Okay, it’s going to be shirts against blouses.’ The blouses won, they beat the s— out of us. We had one dude on our squad Larry who could play and he didn’t have no shoes so Prince gave him some sneakers. And Prince wore like two, three sizes smaller than Larry, but Larry was so excited to have Prince’s sneakers on, he put those tiny sneakers on his feet and he couldn’t do his game right. So we lost. The one dude who could play, Prince’s shoes had him shutdown.”

After being delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Eddie Murphy’s “Coming 2 America” will finally be available for streaming on Amazon Prime on March 5th.
