While fans were left wondering why Erica Banks went quiet, new details about her recent arrest are finally painting a clearer picture. And trust us, theres a lot to unpack.
As reported a few days ago, Erica Banks was arrested. Reportedly, Banks was taken into custody and charged with possession of a Schedule or II controlled substance with intent to distribute. At the time, her booking record reportedly indicated that she was found in possession of ecstasy. Meanwhile, officers also discovered marijuana on her companion, Amani Dirton.
However, Ericas PR team, led by Myricka Hairston, provided exclusive details clarifying the situation.
“Erica Banks was released yesterday, along with her girlfriend Dro Montana, and we want to clarify a few important facts. Erica is currently in town strictly for business and was driving a vehicle she rented through a private car-rental host. Due to an internal issue on the rental companys end, the vehicle was flagged, which led to an unexpected police interaction. There was no intent to distribute or any criminal activity on Ericas part. She is home, safe, and spending time with her family as she gets back to work and focuses on her music. We appreciate everyones support and understanding during this time.”
According to WSB-TV, Banks was arrested by Brookhaven police on Monday, December 8, around 2:59 p.m. The outlet reports that the rapper was taken into custody after being pulled over during a traffic stop on Buford Highway. CBS News notes that details remain unclear regarding what led to the traffic stop and circumstances of the arrest. And, TMZ reported that the car Banks was riding in as a passenger was allegedly stolen. Additionally, it caught police attention because of a tinted tag covering dealer plates. It was also reported that the driver, identified as Amani Dirton, was also taken out of the vehicle.
