Whew! A familiar name is back in the headlinesand not for the reasons fans were hoping. Former NBA champion Lamar Odom is making waves after a recent run-in with law enforcement that has people talking and checking for updates.
According to TMZ, Lamar Odom was arrested early Saturday morning (January 17) in Las Vegas on suspicion of driving under the influence. The outlet reports that Odom was booked on a DUI charge and also cited for two traffic violations, including driving more than 41 miles per hour over the speed limit and failing to properly maintain his lane. As of Saturday afternoon, Odom was reportedly still in custody.
As soon as the news broke, folks ran straight to The Shade Room Instagram comments and had a full-on field day. Some admitted they initially thought Lamar Odom had gone to be with the Lord, while others flooded the comments with messages saying theyre still rooting for him and hoping hes okay. Meanwhile, several people opened up about their own sobriety journeys, sharing how hard recovery can be and sending Lamar words of encouragement.

Meanwhile, Instagram user @sirbuchanan wrote, “C’mon bro we really rooting for you. Got to do better ”
While Instagram user @nubian_love_queen shared, “Boy y’all had my mind GONE for a split second! Lawd! ”
Lastly, Instagram user @sayred_37 added, “You have all that money and couldnt call a driver ??!!!!“
The former Los Angeles Lakers star, who won two NBA championships during his career, has been open about his long and public battle with substance abuse. Odom was previously arrested for DUI in 2013. And he nearly lost his life in 2015 after suffering a near-fatal overdose, an incident that drew national attention and involved his then-wife, Khlo Kardashian.
In recent years, Odom has shared that he recommitted himself to sobriety and has focused on helping others struggling with addiction through advocacy and recovery work.
