Yasss! Fantasia Goes ‘Back To School’, Thanks Sigma Gamma Rho Soror For Motivating Her

Fantasia Barrino, who rose to prominence after winning the third season of American Idol, recently announced that she’s heading back to school!

Fantasia’s Sigma Gamma Rho Soror Supported The Decision: ‘We Push Each Other’

The “Truth Is” singer announced her decision during an Instagram Live, which a fan screen-recorded and uploaded to YouTube.

She was also sure to give a shoutout to her friend Yvonne—a member of Sigma Gamma Rho, which Fantasia was honorarily inducted into late last year. As both of the women are back in school, she noted that they “motivate each other.” We love to see the sisterhood in action!

“I went back to school. Shoutout to my soror, Yvonne. She’s back in school, I’m back in school. We push each other—motivate each other.”

She also noted, “I’m proud of me. Sometimes we gotta pat ourselves on the back.”

She didn’t share any other details about her decision to go back to school, though one thing is for certain: Fantasia’s out here making moves!

Notably, she let fans in on her mission with a recent Twitter post, which read, “This current chapter of my life is called: MY TURN and I’m unapologetic about it!!”

Fantasia Earned Her GED In 2009 After Dropping Out At 14

The R&B artist’s decision to pursue a college degree is the latest step in her educational journey, which hasn’t been the easiest.

After being raped by a popular student, Fantasia dropped out of her High Point, North Carolina, high school in 9th grade. Three years later, she welcomed a daughter with her then-partner, who was abusive.

Eventually, though, Fantasia was given a platform to shine through American Idol, and her music career took off. However, she still prioritized earning her GED, which she received in 2009, as noted by the Atlanta Black Star.

Now, the 38-year-old is on to new pursuits.

Shoutout to Fantasia Barrino, and we wish her the best of luck on her educational journey!
