Donald Trump has not made it to the White House as of yet. Nonetheless, fashion designers are already making announcements that they do not plan to dress the First Lady-elect, Melania Trump.

According to New York Magazine, fashion designer Sophie Theallet, who currently dresses our first lady Michelle Obama, released a statement earlier this week.

In her statement she said, “As an immigrant myself in this country, I have been blessed with the opportunity to pursue my dreams in the USA. Dressing the First Lady Michelle Obama for the past 8 years has been a highlight and an honor. She has contributed to having our name recognized and respected worldwide.”

She continued, “As one who celebrates and strives for diversity, individual freedom, and respect for all lifestyles, I will not participate in dressing or associating in any way with the next First Lady. The rhetoric of racism, sexism, and xenophobia unleashed by her husband’s presidential campaign are incompatible with the shared values we live by.”

Michelle Obama has been killing the fashion scene for the past eight years, so of course everyone is wondering if our incoming First Lady will be able to keep up.

Sophie Theallet is only one designer, but her decision has many people questioning if other designers will follow in her footsteps.
