Ferguson Activists & The Father Of Michael Brown Jr. Request $20 Million From Black Lives Matter As They Work To Restore Community Efforts

The International Black Freedom Alliance (IBFA) and Michael Brown Sr. have come together to request a total of $20 million from Black Lives Matter. Earlier this week, Tory Russell from IBFA and Michael Brown Sr. spoke on video about the money that they are demanding from the organization, and why they are demanding the money. They continued to detail the efforts they plan to reestablish with the money as they continue to push their community forward.

In the video, Russell claims that the organization has forgotten about Ferguson and the Freedom Fighters who have given their lives. He says they are hardly spoken about, and their families have not been taken care of. In an official press release, it noted that a recent article published by the Associated Press stated that The Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation took in over $90 million last year.

The press release continued to state that Michael Brown Sr. and many others were surprised to learn of the amount that the organization took in, and began to question the group’s funding.

As many of you know, back in 2014 Michael Brown Jr. was killed by Ferguson officer Darren Wilson. As a result of his murder, many people from the community took to the streets to protest for justice to be served in his case.

The press release continued to state that they believe “the momentum from the 2014 unrest and subsequent protest that local activists organized for several months after were the catalysts for the group being propelled into the position to receive the $90 million.”

IBFA also outlined the community efforts they plan to use the $20 million for. They mentioned plans to use the money for the Chosen For Change Foundation (Foundation for Mike Brown), a Mike Brown Community Center, grants for Ferguson protests and activists, as well as programs and services in the Black community.
