Former College Student Gets Sentenced To A Year In Jail After She Lied About Being Raped By Two Black Athletes

A former college student from #Connecticut was sentenced to a year in jail for lying about being raped by two black athletes. The cameras were rolling at 20-year-old #NikkiYovino’s sentencing in Connecticut’s #BridgeportSuperiorCourt and it appeared Yovino showed no remorse for the crime, rolling her eyes during her appearance, according to Vibe.

Officials said Yovino was a student at #SacredHeartUniversity in #Fairfield, Connecticut, where she had consensual sex with two football players at a party in 2016.

Yovino lied about being raped because she reportedly wanted to garner sympathy from a love interest. Though both men were never charged, the victims testified their lives were greatly impacted by the lie, including being forced out of the university for the investigation.

Authorities said she confessed about the lie three months later after police found inconsistencies in her statements. She tried to avoid jail time by claiming mental illness, but in June she accepted a deal to plead guilty to misdemeanor charges of falsely reporting an incident and interfering with police.

Yovino’s sentencing hearing happened about a week ago. She could still face a lawsuit from the victims.

#Roommates, do you think Yovino’s punishment fit the crime? Let us know!
