John Amos, one of the stars of ‘Good Times,’ has passed away at the age of 84.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amos’ son, Kelly Christoper Amos, revealed his passing in a statement reportedly shared on Tuesday, October 1.
“It is with heartfelt sadness that I share with you that my father has transitioned,” K.C. reportedly explained. “He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold and he was loved the world over. Many fans consider him their TV father. He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding works in television and film as an actor…”
In his statement, K.C. briefly reflected on his father’s work as an actor, per Deadline.
“My father loved working as an actor throughout his entire life most recently in ‘Suits LA’ playing himself and our documentary about his life journey as an actor, ‘Americas Dad.’ He was my dad, my best friend, and my hero,” he reportedly added. “Thank you for your prayers and support at this time.”
Ultimately, K.C. reportedly shared that his father “transitioned” on August 21 while in Los Angeles, California. John reportedly passed from natural causes.
According to Deadline, John Amos’ career spanned over five decades. He also starred in the television series ‘The Mary Tyler Moore Show’ and the critically acclaimed miniseries, ‘Roots.’ In addition to his career on the big screen, Amos reportedly pursued stage projects such as his role in the “one-man show, ‘Halleys Comet…'”
“We are so proud to have represented John. He was not only a remarkable talent but also a deeply kind and generous soul. His impact on the industry and those who knew him will never be forgotten,” Julia Buchwald, the President of the Buchwald representation agency, reportedly stated, per Deadline.

According to TMZ, John is survived by his son Kelly Christopher and daughter Shannon. As The Shade Room previously reported, in June 2023, John denied claims that he became a victim of elder abuse after being hospitalized.
The claims were reportedly made by his daughter, and a GoFundMe campaign had reportedly been launched for his assistance. However, in an exclusive report by TMZ, John reportedly denied the claims and shared his confusion about the fundraiser.
