Roommates, as millions of people have come together in protest all across the country, many have forgotten that we are still in a global pandemic! Governors Andrew Cuomo of New York, and Tim Walz of Minnesota are urging people in their states to get tested after participating in those demonstrations.

According to CNBC, New York is expanding its COVID-19 testing facilities to the thousands of people who ditched social distancing in protest of the tragic death of #GeorgeFloyd. Gov. Cuomo says the protests have drawn about 20,000 people in New York City alone.

“You have 30,000 people who have bee protesting statewide. Many of them wear masks, thank God, but there’s no social distancing,” he said. “You look at the encounters with the police. The police are right in their face. They’re right in the face of the police. If you were at a protest, go get a test please. The protesters have a civic duty here also. Be responsible, get a test.”

He added that people should wear masks while demonstrating, and inform other people if they have been exposed to the coronavirus. “If you were at one of those protests, I would, out of an abundance of caution, assume that you’re infected and tell people,” he said.

Similarly, Gov. Walz is urging everyone who protested to be checked for the virus. In a tweet, Gov. Walz expressed the importance of getting tested and retested to stop the spread the virus.

“Anyone who demonstrated should receive a test for COVID-19,” he says. “If you thin you’ve been exposed, get a test 5 days after the even. If the test turns up negative, get tested again 14 days after the event.”
