Deundrea Holloway, an Illinois man, has been sentenced after allegedly decapitating his pregnant ex-girlfriend, Liese Dodd, in 2022.
According to PEOPLE, Holloway is believed to have killed his 22-year-old ex-girlfriend in her apartment on June 9, 2022. Per the outlet, Dodd and Holloway had an on-and-off relationship. Additionally, Dodd was eight months pregnant at the time. However, the child was not Holloway’s.
On the night of the incident, Dodd’s mother, Heidi Noel, was unable to get in contact with her. Then, when the 22-year-old’s mother arrived at her apartment, she discovered her daughter’s decapitated body.
Per the outlet, authorities reportedly determined that Holloway killed Dodd. Then, he left her head “in a nearby dumpster.”
According to TooFab, amid Holloway’s trial, he was reportedly found to be mentally unfit on two occasions. This reportedly resulted in him participating in “court-ordered psychological evaluations” until he was deemed mentally fit to return to trial.
Per PEOPLE, Holloway pled guilty to charges of first-degree murder and “intentional homicide” of Dodd’s unborn child in December 2024. On Friday, January 17, he was sentenced to 60 years in prison.
“Our hope is that this conviction and sentence provide the family and loved ones some assurance and will be a step towards healing,” Madison County States Attorney Tom Haine reportedly told the press after Holloway’s sentencing.
Furthermore, a GoFundMe campaign has reportedly been launched “in memory of Liese Dodd and [for] Family support.” Additionally, the fund’s description shares a few words about Dodd from her sister-in-law and mother.
“Liese was taken from us unexpectedly and too soon. We have created this fund as a place for those wishing to assist in Wishing to contribute in anyway,” the campaign reads before including a statement in reaction to Dodd’s sentencing. “…This sentencing brings some resolution to a heinous crime. No sentence or amount of time will bring my daughter or granddaughter back, but this sentence should insure he is not able to hurt anyone else…”
To date, the campaign has raised over $15,000 of a $20,000 goal.
As The Shade Room previously reported, in August 2024, a Texas man was sentenced for allegedly decapitating his wife. At the time, it was reported that the incident occurred three months after they got married.
Furthermore, the man was accused of striking his wife multiple times and dismembering her body.
