Santino Casio, the incarcerated man who stabbed Tory Lanez 14 times in prison, has reportedly shared why he attacked the rapper.
On Saturday, May 24, TMZ published an exclusive report asserting that the outlet spoke with Casio over the phone. Per the outlet, Casio is serving a life sentence. ABC7 Los Angeles reports that Casio is 42 years old and has been at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi since 2004. Furthermore, he was reportedly given life for “second-degree murder and first-degree attempted murder.” In 2008, he was reportedly sentenced to six more years for “assault by a prisoner with a deadly weapon.” Then, in 2018, he was reportedly given two more years for “possession and manufacture of a deadly weapon by a prisoner.”
Per Casio, he reportedly believed “Tory put a price on his head.” Furthermore, Casio alleged he heard rumors asserting the aforementioned via the “prison grapevine.” When he ran into Lanez on the morning of May 12, he noticed the rapper had a “suspicious lump” in his pocket area. Casio reportedly thought it was a weapon and attacked the rapper in self-defense.
Furthermore, he told TMZ that he and Lanez had a “decent relationship” prior to the incident.
Social media users reacted to the update regarding the incident in The Shade Room’s comment section.
While Instagram user @sally_field2 added, “Why would a celebrity who has an out date want to risk his freedom for you?”
“The recent attempt on his life was savage and ferocious, underscoring the clear and present danger he faces while incarcerated. Any claim to the contrary particularly from an individual serving a life sentence for heinous crimes is not only baseless but an absurd fabrication… [Tory Lanez’s] continued confinement is both a miscarriage of justice and a threat to his safety. He must be released immediately,” they reportedly stated.
As The Shade Room previously reported, after the attack, Tory Lanez was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Initially, it was exclusively shared that the rapper was in critical condition following the attack. Then, the following day, it was revealed that Lanez had been stabbed 14 times, per The Shade Room.
“Tory was stabbed 14 times including 7 wounds to his back, 4 to his torso, 2 to the back of his head, and 1 to the left side of his face,” a statement released via his social media account alleged.
Per NewsNation, Lanez was moved to a new prison earlier this week. This update arrives amid Megan Thee Stallion reacting after Lanez’s legal team alleged new evidence had been presented proving his innocence in her shooting.
