Ja Rule Goes Gets Dragged For Viral Greek Restaurant Commercial—Later Clarifies That It Was For A New TV Show & For Charity

Roommates, social media was on fire recently when Ja Rule appeared in an instantly viral commercial for a Greek restaurant, as many were scratching their heads trying to figure out why. Well, now Ja Rule has offered up some clarification—and revealed that not only was the commercial for a new TV show he’s appearing on, it was also a tool to raise money for charity.

Ja Rule is no stranger to being heavily criticized on social media (thanks in large part to the Fyre Festival debacle,) but this time it seems that the criticism was premature. Ja found himself a top trending topic on Twitter when footage was released of him endorsing a Greek restaurant that looked incredibly low-budget. Jokes continued to fly for several hours, including from Ja Rule’s forever enemy 50 Cent, but apparently they weren’t exactly warranted.

Ja took to Instagram to explain exactly what the commercial was all about…and also silence his haters:

“Thanks for making my commercial trend!!! With your help we raised money for @nokidhungry and will be doing so every week on @celebshowoff so vote for ya boy!!! Show premieres tomorrow on @TBSNetwork Opaaa!!!”

He continued, adding:

“We all know we going through a tough time right now, especially mom and pop shops. My heart goes out to these businesses. So today, I’m helping out Papa Cristo’s. The spot has been around for seventy years, it’s a staple in the community in Los Angeles. But like most of the mom and pop shops, he’s had a tough year. So I’m going to use my notoriety, my fame, to help him out in a show that I created called ‘Pitch Perfect.’”

“Celebrity Show-Off” with Ja Rule premieres June 23rd at 10PM on TBS.
