According to new reports, Blake recently left the Milwaukee hospital where he had been receiving treatment and officially transferred to a rehab center.

@CBSNews confirms that 29-year-old Jacob Blake has been moved to a spinal rehabilitation center, according to his attorney, Patrick Cafferty. Cafferty said that Blake “is in a spinal injury rehabilitation center in Chicago,” but he explained that he was unable to provide additional details, including what day Blake left the hospital or how long he will remain in the rehabilitation center. On August 23rd, Jacob Blake received national attention when he was shot in the back multiple times by police officer Rusten Sheskey.

The bullets from the devastating shooting severely damaged Blake’s stomach, kidney, liver, colon and small intestine, as confirmed by his other attorney, Patrick Salvi. Following his transfer to the hospital after the shooting, Blake’s legal team stated that he was paralyzed from the waist down as a result of his injuries.

The news of Blake’s shooting, accompanied by video footage of the altercation which showed his children watching, put the city of Kenosha in the national spotlight and a public outcry shortly followed. Protestors reacted to the news of the shooting by flooded the streets, sparking boycotts and marches, including the deaths of two protestors. Police were also heavily criticized for Blake being handcuffed to his hospital bed at the beginning of his stay.

According to the Milwaukee Sheriff’s Office, the restraints were due to Blake’s former felony warrants, which require restraints while in custody, according to department policy. Thankfully, on August 28th , the handcuffs were reportedly removed after Blake posted bond.
