Jeannie Mai Talks Giving God Her ‘Pain’ And Daughter Monaco Being Her ‘North Star’ Amid Divorce From Jeezy

Jeannie Mai got candid with Sherri Shepherd about how she’s coping with her divorce proceedings. The sit-down comes after Mai broke her social media silence on Wednesday.

Her brief post about disconnecting to heal was the first to appear on her Instagram feed since Jeezy’s filing became headlines last month.

The Shade Room exclusively shared a first look at the Sherri Shepherd sit-down on Thursday (Oct. 12).

In the interview, Jeannie Mai shared her private reaction to her estranged marriage becoming public information.

“After that moment, I just turned off every single device in my house, and I really tuned into the voices I really needed to hear, which was me and the truth,” Mai said.

As PEOPLE previously reported, Jeezy filed for divorce on Sept.14 in Atlanta, Georgia. In the court documents, the rapper cited an “irretrievably broken” marriage with “no hope for reconciliation.” Additionally, the filing revealed that the couple had been living in a “bona fide state of separation.”

It’s unclear when their separation began, given that Jeannie Mai penned a sweet note celebrating her estranged husband’s memoir a week before the filing. She ended her caption on the Instagram post by saying, “Honored to walk beside you, my love.”

Jeannie Mai Talks About Leaning On God And Her Daughter Amid Divorce

In her interview with Sherri, Jeannie Mai did not clarify or give context about what led to the divorce proceedings or her current stance with Jeezy. However, she did reveal that she’s leaning on God during this time.

“You know, I’m not gonna lie, it takes every day to just really sit and be quiet in your thoughts. Take care of me. But one thing I know is: you give God your pain, he will give you his power. So every day I’m like here. You got room for more? Here’s some more. And just taking it day by day, you know,” Mai told Sherri.

As The Shade Room previously reported, Jeezy and Jeannie Mai welcomed their only child together, Monaco, in January 2022.

In the divorce filing, Jeezy reportedly requested joint legal custody of Monaco. However, there is no additional public information about their current co-parenting situation amid the divorce.

While speaking to Sherri, Jeannie detailed how being a mother has impacted how she’s handling the separation.

“Monaco. That is my north star, and I can definitely tell you I don’t know if I would handle this the same without her. Today, I’m able to look at her and say, ‘What would I advise you if you were in my shoes?’ And it changes everything, so I’m so thankful to be a mom, and I’m thankful to have her,” Mai said.
