Jermaine Dupri is speaking out after Dawn Robinson said she felt attacked by his comments on her car living situation. As previously reported, Dupri questioned the En Vogue singer’s financial status after Dawn revealed she’s staying in her car but has an assistant. Nearly two weeks after the producer weighed in, Robinson called him out. In an exclusive statement to The Shade Room’s Jade Ashley, Jermaine is clearing the air on what he meant. He also seemingly apologized for his actions.
Dupri circled back around on Friday (March 28) to address how Dawn felt about him speaking on her car living. As previously reported, the producer spoke heavily about Robinson employing an assistant while not having a permanent living space.
“Aint no way she got an assistant and she aint got no money. When you aint got no money and you out here doing what you gotta do, you out here doing s**t by yourself,” Jermaine said on-camera at the time. “You moving around by yourself. Aint nobody getting ready to sit up under you and just kick it for nothing.”
Speaking to Jade Ashley, Jermaine said Dawn misinterpreted his words. He claimed that he was defending her and not attacking her car-living choice.
“Im sorry she viewed what I was saying as an attack; it feels like she didnt watch my video. She heard what someone said because if you watch my video, I was trying to defend her because I watched her video very thoroughly and realized that she was saying this was her choice,” Dupri clarified.
As mentioned, Robinson said she was confused by Jermaine weighing in. Dawn added, “I was shocked. Artist to artist…we don’t attack each other like that. You would swear that he knows me directly and he knows my story. It’s like, where are you coming from.” She also seemingly implied that he could’ve reached out to her rather than assume about her life.
“…some people just have to be negative, and he doesn’t know my story, so he’s assuming. Instead of reaching out to me directly…,” Dawn said of Jermaine.
Dawn Robinson has yet to respond to Jermaine’s apparent apology and clarification.
